After 34 years in one family, the Owl has now been passed on. Claudia Pollinger and Ben Philo re-launched this iconic café in April 2017, conscious of the responsibility that comes with success and history, of expectation and local sentiment. In renovating the interior we have worked on preserving the traditional feel of natural wood and Georgian architecture, adding splashes of colour and opening out the dining rooms to accommodate people in any combination. View the menu to see what we have available.
The large, walled garden, one of Holt’s wonderful secrets, remains unchanged with its attractive, paved terrace and colourful borders. Offering seating for 30 people, this peaceful suntrap, away from the noise and bustle of the town, is a perfect place to meet friends or escape to for a relaxing glass of wine or coffee.
Last but certainly not least, there is our shop and bakery, through which you will probably pass to enter the café. In the shop we retail all our homemade cakes, breads and savouries. You will find a richly varied selection, from traditional Norfolk shortcake and our famous sausage rolls, to exotic pistachio cherry cakes and peanut butter cheesecake. We have a salad bar too with exciting, daily-changing salads to eat in or take away.
At The Owl, we have carefully selected our tea and coffee to complement our menu using local Norfolk suppliers. Our house tea is from Wilkinson’s of Norwich – a scented yet richly flavoured blend of Darjeeling, Kenya and Ceylon - offered alongside many other speciality teas. For coffee we have a state of the art La Spaziale espresso machine and our beans come from Norwich’s Little Red Roaster whose house blend is roasted for us to order.
So, welcome to the new and old Owl and we look forward to serving you.
